MACBETH TAKES MAIDEN WIN

Twenty-five year old Jason Macbeth took his first race win of the 2009 ACU British MMX Quad Championship on Sunday the 21st of June, the Proppa.com Four Tech ATV Racing rider travelling the short distance from his Reading base to the challenging Culham Park Motocross circuit near Abingdon for the 5th round of the series. With ever improving results from the opening round at Mildenhall in April, Jason has made an amazing recovery from surgery during the off season and is showing a return to the form that has helped him to multi British Championships, Jason adding a final moto 3rd to his opening race victory to take 2nd overall on the day and reduce the gap to 2nd in the series to eleven points.

A challenging hardpack natural circuit that proved to be increasingly demanding as the days racing progressed, the Culham venue brought out the best in rider and machine with some hard fought battles throughout the proceedings. A blistering lap in timed qualification saw Jason secure 3rd fastest time for an excellent pick of gate, Jason choosing wisely and blasting around the first corner for the start of the opening moto in 2nd. Quickly adapting to the slick surface that had been watered in the interval to keep dust at bay, Jason settled in to a furious pace and began to challenge for the lead, moving to the front of the pack with less than eight minutes of the twenty-five minute plus twolap moto gone. With a clear track in front and the Proppa.com Four Tech ATV Racing TRX450R working beautifully around the circuit, Jason increased his pace and pulled away from the ensuing pack, taking fastest lap of the race as he charged to the chequered flag after fifteen laps for his first race win of 2009.

Another good start for the closing moto saw Jason head out on the opening lap in 5th and quickly begin to make his way through the pack, moving up to 3rd by the end of the lap and involved in a five way battle for the lead. Using the excellent handling of the Lonestar / PEP suspension to smooth out the bumps, Jason attacked the rougher areas of the circuit and charged through for the lead with twenty minutes remaining. Setting a relentless pace as he lead a five rider freight train and resisted the many challenges for the next fifteen minutes, the large crowd well entertained with the ensuing battle as they circulated nose to tail, a slight mistake saw Jason pushed wide and relinquish his lead, Jason fighting heroically for the final two laps to gain back his position and taking the chequered flag after thirty energy sapping laps in a fantastic 3rd.

“It’s been another good day at the office and it’s fantastic to take my first race win. I got great starts and once I got to the front in the first moto I pulled away quite easily for the win, but the second moto I wasn’t able to shake the guys off and had to ride defensively, which is never an easy thing to do. The Proppa.com Four Tech ATV Racing TRX450R is working really well and my strength is improving with every meeting, everything is starting to gel together and the results are coming, so I feel confident that I’ll be on the top step of the podium in the very near future. I’m only eleven points off 2nd place in the series and thirty-seven behind the leader which is achievable with four rounds remaining, so the next round at Dean Moor I’ll be aiming for the overall win.”

PROPPA.COM STR HONDA SIGN JAMES NOBLE

After weeks of speculation Proppa.com STR Honda have confirmed that they have secured the services of Noble for the rest of the season and also for 2010.

Steve Turner, team manager commented “After finding out that James and MVR-D had decided to part company and that he was being courted by a number of top teams within the paddock, I would have been a fool not to throw my hat in the ring. I have always been impressed with James as a rider and am flattered that he has chosen us ahead of the other teams which were vying for his signature. He certainly increases the team’s chances of success both in terms of results and of exposure for our sponsors”

Noble added “It’s unfortunate that I’ve parted company with MVR-D mid-season. All I can do now is get my head down, work as hard as I can and hopefully turn in some good performances.

I am looking forward to dealing with Steve and all the guys at STR and hope that I can get the results for the team and the sponsors as well as for myself.”

MAXXIS BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 4

The fourth round of the Maxxis British Championship took place at Hawkstone Park, Shropshire on 14th June. Both the track and the weather conditions were excellent.

Qualifying

Rose qualified in 8th with himself and the other seven in front separated by just ¾ of a second. Parker enjoyed his highest Maxxis qualification of the season in 14th.

Race 1

Both riders had poor starts and at the end of the first lap Rose was 14th with Parker in 18th. On lap four Rose pulled into the pits with an injured knee and was to take no further part in the race.

Parker had made his way through to 14th and was now catching Jamie Smith and Jamie Law and by lap eight he had passed both to move up to 12th but Smith wasn’t going to go down without a fight and actually gained the place back before Parker finally saw off his challenge on the thirteenth lap. He managed to pick up another place before the end as Scott Columb hit the dirt and finished in his highest position in the British Championship in 11th.

Race 2

Rose went to the line with his knee strapped up and managed to struggle round for a brave 15th at the flag. Parker had an awful start down in 35th as they exited the woods and after fighting his way through to the top twenty by the second lap it was looking good for another great result. However the worsening track conditions really took their toll on the youngster and he had to fight for all he was worth just to get to an 18th place finish at the end of what he found to be a tortuous race.

MACBETH ON PODIUM IN HOLLAND

Jason Macbeth and the dedicated Proppa.com Four Tech ATV Racing crew travelled to the challenging Dutch Circuit De Vennebulten at the weekend, the VAMAC club promoting round two of the 2009 GOLDSPEED EMX European Quad Championship at their deep sand circuit near Varsseveld. With constantly improving results in the British Championship taking him to 3rd in the series and a genuine challenger for honours, Jason made the eight hundred mile round trip keen to get his European campaign off to a good start, and at the end of a tough days racing in the deep loose sand Jason had put together an outstanding 6-4-3 scorecard to take 4th overall, Jason’s final moto effort to grab a podium finish on the last lap a certain contender for most outstanding ride of the day. Situated just twenty-five miles to the East of Arnhem in the Gelderland region of the Netherlands, the spectacular circuit provided a challenging layout incorporating a heavily wooded area for much of its 1,2 mile length. Using the two free and the all important qualification session on Saturday to get a feel for the circuit and it’s ever changing surface, Jason quickly got up to speed and was never placed below 4th in any of the three sessions, the Lonestar / PEP suspension working beautifully in the rough conditions with Jason heading his group in the second free practice session and posting 2nd fastest qualifying time in his group.

As race day dawned the overnight rain had had little effect and the circuit was in prime condition for the first of three twenty minute plus two-lap motos. A poor start by his standards in the opening moto saw Jason gate just inside the top ten as the field charged out on the first of twelve laps. Gradually increasing his pace as he adapted to the circuit in the opening laps, Jason moved up through the field and by the end of lap two had moved up to 6th, Jason battling hard to the chequered flag and comfortably maintaining his position.

Rounding the first corner inside the top ten for the start of the second moto, Jason once again moved quickly through the pack in the early stages, breaking the timing beam for the first time in 6th. With the days racing having already taken it’s toll and some deeply rutted areas in the wooded sections, Jason’s progress suffered with a bad run on back markers as the race approached the halfway point, Jason dropping back to 8th with six laps to go. Increasing his tempo and with the track coming to him, Jason began to push his way back through the field, and quickly caught the trio battling for position in front, Jason moving up to 6th on lap seven and gaining another two positions over the remainder of the moto to finish a rewarding 4th.

As the gates dropped for the final moto of the day, Jason got fantastic drive off the line and rounded the first corner in 3rd as they charged towards the woods for the first of ten laps, only to see his blistering start negated on the 3rd corner with the two riders in front getting stuck in the deep ruts and Jason unable to avoid them. Working furiously as he fought to untangle his bike, Jason quickly got underway but had dropped back to 19th as a result, but setting off at a blistering pace despite the circuit at it’s roughest began to scythe through the field, making up two places on the opening lap before taking another seven positions on the following lap to have moved from 19th to 10th in less than two laps! Continuing to set a relentless pace and with his bike handling perfectly in the demanding conditions, Jason continued his ascension through the ranks and by half distance had moved up to 6th, Jason’s amazing performance keeping in excess of five-thousand spectators on their toes as he moved up to 3rd halfway around the final lap, charging to the chequered flag for a fantastic final moto podium having made up sixteen places in ten laps!

It’s been a good day overall and I’m pleased with the way I was able to work my way through the field and take a podium in the final race. I think I had the perfect bike set-up for the conditions, I love riding sand circuits but we don’t have any tracks at home that get as deeply rutted as this, so to be on the pace from the start was really good. I didn’t get the best of starts in the first two motos, and with tram lines in many places it was difficult to pass, but I still managed to get back through for a decent finish. The last race I got a brilliant start but got caught up in the opening lap and had a lot of work to do. Once I settled down my bike just glided through the rougher areas and allowed me to really attack the circuit. It was a lot of fun to ride and great to finish on the podium, but I can’t help feeling a little annoyed as I know my pace was good enough for the top step. I only missed out on 3rd overall by three points and have tied on points for 7th in the series despite missing the first round, so I’m looking forward to the next meeting in Denmark at the end of July, where I’ll be aiming to get more silverware for Proppa.com Four Tech ATV Racing.

BRAD EXTENDS HIS CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD

Here's Brad's report on last weekend's meeting....
I've just returned from the third round of the AMCA championship @ Cleobury Mortimer hosted by the Wolverhampton club. On arrival the team and myself was greeted with a super track and and excellent show of how a championship should be run and organised, top notch and faultless.

Practise / Qualifying

With the track being heavily watered, the surface was very very sloppy for the majority of the session. I posted a 9Th position mid session, not happy with this i came into the pits. Steve quickly cleaned the bike off and with a fresh set of rip n rolls i was back out and feeling lighter and fresher. I posted another time which put me in 6Th and with a lot of traffic this was my best lap.

Race 1

As the gate dropped for race one i was 2ND going down the first big downhill, Hollis was in front and i was determined to pass him quickly and push forward. I passed Hollis within two laps and tried my hardest to push on and get some breathing room.
I pulled from Hollis and the chasing pack, with two laps remaining Brad Turner was closing me in and tried to make a pass on one of the tight up hill turns. I managed to stay in control of the race and onto take the finish flag.

1st O'leary
2nd Turner
3rd Saunders

Race 2

Again in race two i managed to get a good start and into the first turn within the top five. As i exited the turn i was involved in a small incident which left me in around twelfth position. I focused myself and settled into a good rhythm, reeling in the riders in front and continuing to push i was third at the flag.

1st Turner
2nd Saunders
3rd O'leary

Race 3

This race was a mirror image of the second moto, as i was tangled up with a few riders in the tight second turn once more. Within 3 laps i was around fourth and settled. Saunders made a move pass me and i went straight back past him in the tight second turn, i was to close for comfort and we both fell back to around ninth. I picked myself up and pushed back to fourth at the flag.

1st Turner
2nd Saunders
3rd Hollis
4th O'leary

Overall result

1st Brad Turner 174 points
2nd Ben Saunders 158 points
3rd Brad O'leary 157 points

Summary

I didn't feel 100% perfect today, maybe my lines or my style didn't suit the track, the bike and team was working really well so i can only blame myself really. I've come away still leading the championship but by more than before today, so its not been such a bad day at the office. A huge thanks to mechanic Steve for his faultless work and first class presentation, big thanks to the rest of the team and to all the sponsors, beause without them none of this would be possible.

....Congratulations to Brad from all at PROPPA.COM. Also well done to all other PROPPA.COM championship riders.
